GOLDEN PANDA EXPRESS · ILI–KUQA ROUTE C · PLANNED FOR 2027
A night at Jade Lake, five days through Ili
Lakeside rooms, a mountain valley and the streets of Ili: a written journey through five days of the planned GOLDEN PANDA EXPRESS itinerary.
In the photograph, Jade Lake is a blue ribbon held between steep, wooded slopes. Timber cabins sit above one bank; snowy peaks rise behind the valley. There is a detail in the itinerary worth pausing over, too: the night is spent in Zhaosu. The lake can remain part of the evening after the day’s sightseeing.
This written notebook follows the planned 2027 Ili–Kuqa Route C on GOLDEN PANDA EXPRESS. It draws on the supplied itinerary handbook and photographs to help you choose a route before travelling. Start at the lake, then follow the sequence to Xiata, the communities of Ili, Sayram Lake and Kuqa. The final departure documents govern the arrangements.
Three things to know before you choose
Ili–Kuqa Route C covers Days 6–10 of the planned 16-day journey from Chengdu, alongside separate regional choices.
Day 6 pairs Jade Lake with a stay at Muzitao in Zhaosu and dinner at the hotel; room allocation needs written confirmation.
Days 7–10 continue through Xiata and grassland scenery, Ili culture, Sayram Lake and the canyon near Kuqa.
01 / DAY 6 · ARRIVAL
Follow the mountain road towards Jade Lake
Ili–Kuqa Route C occupies Days 6–10 of the complete 16-day programme. Day 6 points from the Yizhao Highway towards Jade Lake: first the road through the mountains, then the water below. The poster gives this part of the journey its colour. The handbook adds the practical detail: a night at Zhaosu Muzitao Wilderness Luxury Resort Hotel, with dinner at the hotel.
Consider how you would like to spend that day. If a lake visit followed by a night in the same area appeals, Route C deserves a closer look. Read the following four days alongside it. Xiata, a herder-family visit and the canyon near Kuqa all contribute to the character of this choice.
The Yizhao Highway depends on opening conditions. Page 17 of the handbook specifies a national-road alternative when it is closed. Ask about that alternative arrangement when you choose the route, so you know how the day could change.
02 / ON THE WATER
See the mountains from the lake
Set the boat photographs beside the opening landscape and the change in viewpoint becomes clear. From shore, the camera can take in the hillside and cabins together. In the poster’s boat image, a wake leads the eye towards the water between the mountain slopes. These are useful reference views for the lake visit.
When the boat service is operating, the planned outing can take you from the shore onto the water. For a simple photographic sequence, start with a wide view that places the lake within the valley, then look for the texture of the water beside the boat. Two different perspectives can tell more of the day’s story than several versions of the same shot.
The supplied poster also proposes afternoon tea. If that matters to you, request it specifically and ask the adviser to confirm whether it is included. The reviewed day sheet names dinner at the hotel; the poster alone does not establish boat-based afternoon tea as a standard service on every departure.

03 / A PLACE TO STAY
Keep the view for the evening at Muzitao
The accommodation photographs are worth studying for the way the rooms face the valley. A terrace frames the lake; timber walls and seating give the interior a place within that view. The three room panels show different ways to sit with the scenery: from the bed, beside the window and in a lounge area. For someone who enjoys spending time at a hotel, those details help explain the appeal of this overnight stop.
The handbook names Zhaosu Muzitao Wilderness Luxury Resort Hotel for Day 6, together with dinner there. Ask for the expected arrival and next-day departure times. They will help you judge how much time the programme leaves for your room, a terrace or the shared spaces.
The reference photographs include twin beds, timber-lined rooms and window-side seating. Your confirmation should identify the actual room allocation. If a terrace, a particular bed setup or a lake view from the bed is important, say so directly. The hotel name cannot settle those room-level details.

04 / DAYS 7–8
From Xiata’s valley to the streets of Ili
Day 7 lists Xiata, Muzart Glacier scenery and Kurdening Grassland. In the photograph, the distant peaks draw the eye first. For planning, bring your attention closer to the ground: how the day connects, where it pauses and how far the walking goes should be set out in the final programme. Tell the adviser if you hope to spend more time walking or photographing the landscape.
On Day 8, the focus moves towards people and neighbourhoods: a Kazakh herder-family visit and a walk through Liuxing Street. Placing this day after the mountain-and-grassland programme gives Route C a change of pace. Family and street settings introduce another way to encounter Ili after the valley and lake scenery.
Ask permission before photographing people or a family’s home. A written travel notebook can be just as personal when it records small details you actually notice. This planning story leaves those encounters unwritten; they belong to the journey itself.

05 / DAYS 9–10
Another lake, then the walls of a canyon
Day 9 brings Sayram Lake. Compared with the enclosed water in the Jade Lake photographs, this stop shifts attention towards a more open high-altitude lake. Both have a place in the sequence. One is paired with an overnight stay in Zhaosu; the other brings a different scale to the landscape. The Sayram Lake planning guide offers more detail for thinking about that visit.
On Day 10, the setting changes to Kiziliya Grand Canyon near Kuqa, where the programme also lists a private tea gathering. Moving from lakes to rock walls gives the five-day section a distinct ending. Read the sequence aloud if it helps you choose: a night near the lake, mountain and grassland scenery, Ili culture, Sayram Lake, then the canyon.
This is one regional choice within the complete train journey. The other regions and your suite should be considered together. The train interiors and suites guide can help you think about time aboard as well as the days spent sightseeing.

06 / THE DAILY SEQUENCE
Five days within the full journey
This is the planned Ili–Kuqa Route C sequence within the 16-day journey from Chengdu. The source uses these same C-route days in its Duku and non-Duku structures; choosing this option does not itself add a Duku Highway crossing. See the complete route and regional choices.

07 / BEFORE DEPARTURE
Put the details that matter in writing
What happens if the road or boat service is closed?
Page 17 gives two specific alternatives: use a national road if the Yizhao Highway is closed; visit Ahe Yazi Canyon if the Jade Lake boat service is not operating. Ask for the applicable day sheet so you can see the revised sightseeing and connections.
Does Jade Lake Route C carry a CNY 6,000 supplement?
The verified CNY 6,000 per-person supplement on GOLDEN PANDA EXPRESS belongs to Altay Route C. Ili–Kuqa C is a different regional choice. Do not apply that amount to it; your written offer should confirm any Ili-specific addition.
How do I confirm the room and the experiences pictured?
Send the adviser your priorities together: the Day 6 room and bed setup, any view preference, whether the boat is expected to operate, and whether afternoon tea needs a separate arrangement. Request the remaining hotel and train nights in the full offer, too. The service and booking questions are a useful place to start.
